Pitkanen Shower

Below are some pictures of the baby shower that Crystal Vitullo, Courtney Black, LeeAnna Hungerford, Leslie Poole, Ashley Watson, Mandy Payne, Jill Bell, and I hosted.  It was at my house this past Sunday.  Cecile Gray, her mom (Cecile) and her grandmother (Big Mom) all came.  It was just snacks and presents.  That's how we do it in our group of friends.  No games - just talking!

Merri Ryan is due January 7th, 2010!  Benton and Cecile Gray Pitkanen are dear friends of ours the live on the other side of our street (Philwood Avenue) in High Point Terrace.  Luke and I have really enjoyed them since we have moved to Memphis.  They will always be dear friends of ours wherever they move.  Benton graduates medical school in May and will find out where he will do his residency in March.  I know they will not be in Memphis, but hopefully not too far away!  At least I will have a few months to hug on Merri Ryan :)

In other news: Luke finished recovering the chairs for the party...whoopee!!  Bench next :)

Dining Room Chairs In progress.

Our good friend in Nashville hunts estate sales and garage sales for good finds to refurbish and put in one of his 2 antique booths. He knew we were looking for some dining room chairs to replace the original ones that were handed down to us from the 80s (imagine rounded cane back chairs on brass wheels - don't think we don't use them, because we do - without the wheels).

He found 4 Queen Anne chairs ~ all for $40! So, that's $10 a chair.
spray paint (gray primer, black matte & protective gloss) $20
upholstery $32
batting, foam & adhesive $32
chairs $40
=$124 for 4 custom chairs!

Before (however, this one has already been sanded down and glued back together):

I wanted to finally reveal the progress of these chairs.  We are in the midst of recovering the seats.  We began to rip off and de-staple the old chair bottoms and we found this:

SO many staples and super old/thick material to muddle through.

So, Luke just decided to build new seat bottoms himself...off to Lowes to get some particle board!  Luke cut new bottoms out with a jigsaw.  We adhered the foam and then the batting to the board.

Now, off to recovering...

He appears to be super fast.

Luke is a super-husband.  Thanks babe!
Hopefully you will get a blog soon of the completed dinning room chairs, the Queen Anne dining bench to match the chairs that I want Luke to build (we already have the materials - just need a table saw). Updates, eh, soon?  Depends on Luke :)
